It’s Official: Madonna crosses the line.

Yep. It’s official. She has stooped to a low no one thought possible.

She is going to perform an entire show and just smell her armpit the whole time. The above picture is a clip from the show. Ha.

So what did Madonna ever do anyway? Write a few hits?

Wait. Question: Did she even write them? Oh, she CO wrote them. Really? We all know that can mean, “Oh I think the line should be ‘the’ dude rather than ‘a’ dude…” Bang! Co-writer!

Ever seen her just sit down with an acoustic and just kill a song? (Kill like in a GOOD way) Or a piano?

Me neither.

Lady Gaga can at least back up the hype. When she takes off the space suits and makeup that girl can sit down and tear it up.

So what did she do except work the media and spread an eighties fashion sense like a hybrid STD in lace? And attempt to give glory to skank?

Nothing as far as I can tell.

Well, I guess she can perform.

Yeah… but so can ‘Up With People‘.

If you’re going to be a musical/cultural icon at least have some real talent behind it. Even though Michael Jackson turned into a freakshow in the end, he could always sing and dance his butt off. And he did write ‘Billie Jean’ which is a great song.

At the height of her ‘Erotica’ a comedian said, “So what could possibly be next for Madonna? She gonna start releasing her x-rays to the public?”

I guess that’s one good thing about the death of monoculture. The next big really lame thing  won’t be that big.

Here’s a parting story. Totally true as it comes from a close and dependable inside source.  And offensive. As it should be.

I have a very close friend who played music with a guy who worked with Madonna on her first record. I won’t say who though. Don’t want to get in trouble.

So the story goes like this: This guy was invited by Madonna back to her apartment. They hung out. Looked at some of her pictures. Finally she says, “So are you going to f*** me or what?”

I guess he couldn’t resist such class.

My friend asked him how it was.

His answer?

“Nasty.”

Ouch.

In her defense… hmm, nothing comes to mind. Actually, she did do a pretty good job of staying current with whatever was popular. I mean, in the early thousands she was in her mid-40s and had a certain popularity that rivaled Ms Spears (didn’t Like A Prayer make a comeback then? Thanks for the song, Mr Leonard). Of course, you can only rival those in your own camp, which brings us back to skankdom. By the way, what do you have with skanks? All my favorite evening guests are skanks.

I am dudeskank. I recognize my own.

‘Popularity’ being the key term. She was/is a celebrity. She can work the media with her persona. But what did she contribute musically? Or even culturally? Other than embrace the skank within? She has a need to be watched and loved by millions and she figured out how to get that…

To quote the great Neil Hamburger…

“What do you call a senior citizen who can’t refrain from exposing their genitalia in public?

    Madonna.”

I don’t know how she did it. All I know that when I was a teenager everyone was worshiping her (including me – otherwise I would not be cool anymore).

Ah, can’t believe I’m gonna do this, but I am going to defend Madge!

First, she is a great performer. I have never been to her shows, but her whole life is a performance, so even though I haven’t seen her onstage, I have seen her act. It’s not for me, but I wouldn’t say she has no talent for performing.

Second, she writes songs, or at least she says she does. Her interview in Paul Zollo’s Songwriters on Songwriting is one of the best in the book. It’s great because it’s so surprising, but once you get over being surprised, it’s just interesting. She’s well spoken, insightful, honest. If you think I’m just pulling your leg, I’m not! Yeah I agree she can perform and put on a show. That’s one of my beefs though -it’s all a big show and there isn’t much there when it’s all stripped down unlike Prince or Gaga or even MJ. Thanks for the tip on the book though; my opinion might change after reading it.

That is really sad and pathetic. She has an incessant need, bordering on pathological, to seek affirmation from everyone…even if it means shagging someone she just met. That constant need for admiration and attention is also called ‘narcissism’.
