I give up. I’m just gonna ROCK

Yep. That’s right. I’m changing my ways. Oh yes, you will still get the occasional well reasoned, intellectualized, uber-brilliant post (in my own mind anyway), but I’m realizing I lag too much when I overthink  writing a ‘perfect’ post. From now on I will force myself to write more often. Throw caution to the wind and just converse with the ether. As well as you blessed subcribers. And drive by visitors. We welcome all types ’round here.

Much of the reason for my absence though, has been both the mixing/mastering of my band ‘The Tall Ships” new record and then preparation for a show at San Diego’s famed Casbah club. Yes, music, music, music. It’s rough I know. But it saps the writer in me. Sucks the ink from my pen and makes me write lame cliches. So that is why I have turned over a new leaf and decided to write more. Less, but more. After all, less is more. More or less.

So here is a clip from the show that a fine gent from the band Fever Sleeves filmed. And here is a link to download the ‘studio’ version. Mixed by Bryan Cook who just finished recording Radiohead’s new record. So he’s got some mixing muscles.

Here is a parting thought: it’s awesome to create a piece of music/art that you find rewarding and downright good. But it really takes on a different life when it becomes something shared. There is nothing like playing live and sharing music with people. Especially when they actually enjoy it!

I hear you on sweating every post. I do this too. But I got some good advice from wife: just write about what you’re doing and how it makes you feel, because people read your blog to know what’s going on in your life. Helped me, anyway!

    Rockin’ performance.

    Jeff

    Hey Jeff,

    Thanks!

Yeah, I just always want to provide people with something of value -insight, a laugh, or whatever. Don’t ever want to devolve into, “Just fed my cat! His name is Wilbur!” kinda stuff… That’s what facebook is for haha!

You don’t have to keep it a secret. Be openly sad. There’s support for that kind of thing these days.

Tempo was fast eh? Yes -that was why I was laughing in the beginning of the tune; I was like, “Whoa! Here we go!”

Hah! Did Steve’s looper tempo get left on a hot setting and y’alls just rolled with it? I mean, rocked with it? You get no gripes from me! I thought it sounded pretty sick!

No he starts it live every time we play so it will vary on the mood. I imagine there is a way to set it the same every time but you know…kinda takes the excitement out of it. The unexpected trains one in the art of flexibility and brings a certain amount of spark that doesn’t come with predictability.

Don’t worry about the “perfect” post, you are always right on brother. Keep on rockin’ and write when you get the itch.
