I would love to see vinyl make a comeback in the states. I'm looking for a new movement here that returns to grassroots organic culture. Soon there will be a wave of people wanting real networks of friends beyond MySpace and Facebook. There may a natural rejection of certain applications of technology, like a bad organ transplant. Kids may even want to learn how to play a real guitar or real drums instead of a video game. Am I just dreaming this stuff?

Yes storage of records was always an issue. Plus maintenance. All and all, they were a pain and I'm thankful for the progression of technology which has brought us to the mp3. BUT, that being said, (clean) records sound better and the artistic statement is much more powerful. That's why I'm excited about the progression leading us to the best of both worlds...

Very nicely written - takes me back visually, highlights cultural shifts. Anyway, I'm trying to imagine how I used to listen to vinyl being, as it were, tethered to the non-portable stereo. We would sit around and talk with music in the background, or watch an old movie on TV with the sound turned down and the vinyl spinning. We no longer seem to have time to do that in this society. I don't even have a working turntable now. I agree with you about the sound quality. Analog is best but you have to have storage space man!
